To make them Really efficient, add a very close stockpile that accepts your plants, and set your normal food pile to 'take from' that farmer pile. I forget the exact keys, but from the big inning menu look for an option called 'orders' and set one of them to 'only farmers harvest.' One or two dwarves can do quite a bit of farming/harvesting if that's all they do. So it's better to have the actual farmers do all the picking anyways. If the most valuable one is a guild hall then they'll teach the skill of that guild halls profession Experiments with libraries and barracks are ongoing. Higher level farmers pick your plants better And give you more food per plot. If you have an expensive tavern that is only a dining hall the visitors will go to the next meeting hall. If this solves the problem, you know this was the issue. Set your farmer dwarf to do nothing at all except farming. Basically They are hauling stone or wood or installing doors instead. Your dwarves have too many other things that they, in their drunken wisdom, think is more important. Don't forget to enable barrels as well if it's not already. Plump helmet: Subterranean Water Quarry bush: Subterranean Water Sweet pod: Subterranean Water Misc Plants Blade weed: Any biome not freezing Bloated tuber: Any Wetland Fisher berry: Any biome. Make sure your food stockpile is accepting plants, and that there is sufficient room left in the pile. This means either nobody is bothering to pick your plants after they grow, or nowhere for them to take the plants.
